The Skinny reviews Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs – King of Cowards

They say:

Newcastle's Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs have caused a bit of a storm since the release of their 2017 debut album, Feed the Rats. Glasgow fans especially will know them for their close relationship with The Cosmic Dead, but even beyond that, over the past couple of years, Pigs x7 have garnered a formidable cult following in the sludge-metal scene of the UK and Europe due to their intense live performances.

A year and a half on and the northeast quintet have returned with their second full-length King of Cowards, which sees the band eschew their earlier style of writing longer more jammed-out pieces in favour of more focused riff-laden tracks, and for the most part, it's benefitted them massively. Local folk-hero Richard Dawson makes an appearance on the album's opener GNT as part of the vocal choir (he shares bassists with Pigs x7) and the track itself is a Black Sabbath-indebted rock'n'roll masterstroke.

From there, King of Cowards progresses in a highly pleasing way as lead vocalist Matt Baty lyrically explores the seven deadly sins across the record's six tracks. This is metal bursting with imagination and innovation, which any fan of the genre will surely get behind while mentally rolling through the valley of darkness until arriving at the initially comparatively subdued Gloamer, which sees the record off brilliantly.
