Soundblab reviews Temple Ov BBV
It reads:
GNOD should be known to everyone already as they have released some of the best albums of the last few years, including this year's Just Say No. Radar Men From The Moon are an Eindhoven-based instrumental who play shoegaze, neo-psych, kraut, space and noise rock. Temple Ov BBV is 'a collaborative work and a performative gesture between RMFTM and GNOD. The culmination of these two groups can be interpreted as a stream of materialized thoughts, in which their work can be listened, viewed and contemplated in ever changing ways.’
Butchers Tears starts with a metronomic sound that lasts for almost a minute until the band(s) join in. The sound is the Noise/Psychedelia/Gang of Four combination of Just Say No with Paddy Shine shouting over the top about always being on the wrong end of the stick. The song breaks down and returns to the metronome before slowly rebuilding into a Noise/Post-Punk, one-chord onslaught followed by a lengthy screaming session. It's fantastic, especially as the intensity builds during the call and response section at the end...

Record Collector reviews Hey Colossus album 'The Guillotine'

3-2-1 they’re back in the room
In 2004 Hey Colossus released Hey Colossus Hates You, and have since garnered a cultish acclaim for their distinctive brand of groove-laden audio thuggery. That said, since 2015 the drubbings have been somewhat more nuanced. Releasing two albums that year, the London and Somerset outfit began to weigh more heavily on their psychedelic and krautrock influences; resulting in a less-abrasive sound, the possibilities of which are further explored here.
It’s HC’s most melodic release yet and also perhaps their moodiest. Opener Honest To God lumbers about like a fatigued zombie dragging itself up a hill, while others list forward dreamily under the immersive trudge of the drums and the rolling swagger of liquiform country-blues guitar...

Oh man, y’all. I don’t know if I can articulate exactly why I love this so damn much.
Well, let’s try. To begin with, the London-based black magic cult that calls itself Hey Colussus is, collectively, a BEAST. In 2015 alone, they unleashed two radical full-lengths, both with enough magnetic force to pull critics to their knees. And this album here, The Guillotine, marks their tenth album in 12 years. In that time, they’ve fielded the heavens, plunged into infernos, and spiraled closer and closer to an axis only they can see. In Black And Gold felt like a bona fide masterpiece, a blazing comet with a lightyear-long tail – but no, but no, even that was a warm-up for the grueling triathlon up ahead…

Back in 2015, Hey Colossus blessed their willing congregation with a double album release, In Black & Gold and Radio Static High which still remain critically acclaimed to this day with their heavy Desert Rock and bluesy influences painted throughout each composition. With Hey Colossus’ dedicated fanbase showing immense satisfaction from the aforementioned, one has to question whether or not the band can live up to the high bar they set at their previous go-round. But with the release of their 11th full-length album, The Guillotine on Rocket Recordings [once again], this six-piece gang of hustlers has steered their cargo in a slightly more post-hardcore direction thus potentially ridding themselves of the “best-kept secret” title and into the spotlight, gaining the visibility they deserve...

Ahead of Gnoomes UK tour which starts today – Music Map asked the band some questions:

Gnoomes are a bit of an anomaly in the world of psychedelic music, in that they don’t take psychedelics. Or more accurately, they can’t take psychedelics. As the band have previously revealed, the close attention of the Russian authorities are to blame…
“Our vocalist has been almost taken into the Russian Army, while some of us were caught by the police for being high, and the court sentenced [the members] to five days in prison and one year of visiting a narcologist every month. So we haven’t had an opportunity to use psychedelics during the recording process. It was a challenge for us to find the legal ways to make psych music without it, but we thought that it’s not so bad, we could find the best way in daily life and simple things that surrounded us.
Restricted access to hallucinogens seems to have unexpectedly paid dividends. Tschak!, Gnoomes’ second album for Rocket Recordings, is a momentous album. Boosted by the band’s enviable collection of vintage Russian synths, Tschak! is a kaleidoscope of churning electronics, pounding beats and hypnotic waves of repetition that absorb everything from minimal techno to Russian art-rock...
