Bad Vibes...
Fresh from yet another demolition derby between high trash and the lowest avant-garde, ‘Bad Vibes’ is the sound of the Shit & Shine jalopy rocketing way beyond the speed limit on the lineage of the lysergic. Sunstruck abstract disco and pulverising 303-driven piledrivers lock horns with industrial-tinged murk. And frankly, you’d better either get on board or get well out of the way.

$hit & $hine have two more shows on their European tour to go:

09 Nov / Tabtap / Schaffhausen
10 Nov / Paper Dress Vintage / London

Drowned in Sound interviews Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs

They say:

Heavy music has always been an outlier. Even when it has crashed into the mainstream by the sheer force of a riff so irresistible that even the most delicate of tastes succumb, it remains doggedly ‘other’. The successes of bands like Black Sabbath, in spite of gothic attire and flirtations with satanic imagery, while utterly valid, often feel like the establishment’s fleeting dalliance with the darkly exotic.

Broadly speaking, metal is often dished up in either an overtly theatrical or deeply serious way. Of course Sunn O))) brilliantly combine both and make the most intense brain scrambling and oddly meditative music in the process. But it’s certainly not for the faint of heart and, for some, either earnestness or camp posturing can act as a barrier.

Then Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs came along and tore up the rule book.

“There’s one thing I like about our band, this sounds strange, but I’m gonna go there: aesthetically, we don’t really look like a band that makes the kind of music that we make, if you get me?”...

Loud and Quiet makes Shit and Shines 'Bad Vibes' their 'Album of the Week'

They say:

In the late 1990s, a condition known as “Czech Neck” was invented by producers of Channel 4’s satirical masterpiece Brass Eye. Caused by the fictitious drug “Cake”, it turned rats into space hoppers, made recipients throw up their own pelvis bones and led Conservative MP David Amess to use the phrase “big yellow death bullet” in parliament.

Sensationalism has rarely left acid house and its experimental noise off-shoots, and its frontrunners have rarely been allowed a platform to hit back. While it possesses little political agenda, Shit & Shine’s fourth album on Rocket Recordings strikes with an edge of satire and absurdism that clicks with the custard gannets of Brass Eye as much as stands it out as a demolition job within its own genre worth listening to.

Musically, the 303-led acid nostalgia of ‘Bad Vibes’ soundtracks the exercise video for the apocalypse. A reductive interview sample on ‘Bottle Brush’ opens by asking “You don’t want to talk about what happened?” “No, not at all”. It leaves that there. The binary BPMs on ‘Northwest Pool’ call for imminent take-off. The brilliant ‘Yeah I’m On Acid!’ samples a heavy metal parking lot into techno mayhem, like Gazelle Twin’s ‘Better in My Day’ minus the red latex Pied Piper. ‘Backstage Passes!’ drowns a scratching hip-hop riff into muddy water over a whiney sample of basic VIP hype, before an even whinier sample rebuts with “Madonna can go to hell, as far as I’m concerned she’s a dick.”...

Soundblab gives Shit & Shine 'Bad Vibes' 9 out of 10

Soundblab gives Shit & Shine 'Bad Vibes' album 9 out of 10:

This is what they say:

Barmy noise rockers, Shit and Shine have always straddled the boundary between the rational and the preposterous in their off-kilter, experimental dance excursions. Sometimes the music is simply a head-fuck, and sometimes they get the funk going like no other existing band. The titleBad Vibes may foretell your listening experience, but it's more likely just another signpost leading you inexorably into Shit and Shine’s trademark universe of musical perversions.

There should be one of those pharmaceutical leaflets in the record sleeve warning buyers of potential side effects. By the time ‘Yeah, I’m on Acid’ reaches its trippy zenith, your mind and the music have become co-naturalized, so resistance is futile. As if the exhortations of ‘yeah I’m on acid, yeah !” and ‘cocaine, yeah, alright !’ aren’t enough subliminal influence, the groove is insistent, and as with all Craig Clouse’s Texan hallucinations, the object is not only to digress into industrial wastelands of alien noise but grab you on a leash and drag you through the musical refuse. Mind and body trawling through decomposition, both literal and musical......
