Housewives played a blistering show at End of the Road on Friday – playing BBC Radio 3's Late Junctions curated stage. And last night on Late Junction's latest show they premiered new track T2MYNS recorded live at the festival. Listen here: Late Junction ---
It reads: In the past couple of years, Rocket Recordings have pulled off the enviable trick of maintaining some sterling quality control whilst simultaneously moving further away from what might once have been perceived as a house style: the past 12 months has seen them some remarkable albums from acts as diverse as Pigs x7, Julie’s Haircut, Kuro and Gnod (in their raging, bass-driven, agit incarnation). Indeed, it’s that recent Gnod album that the new Housewives record – their second – most resembles at times. FF061116 might be Rocket’s most uncompromising release yet, as Housewives channel everything from eighties industrial grind to post-punk polyrhythms to the most angular hardcore – imagine a REALLY unhinged, rhythm-driven Birthday Party. At times the ‘excerpt’ approach irks a little – tracks start and stop unexpectedly, as if the track is one snippet from a longer work (perhaps it is) but even after a dozen listens I’m still checking to see the player hasn’t skipped. FF061116 isn’t a record of wild variety – Housewives pound each groove into submission before moving onto the next – and it’s bleak stuff, but there’s a power and fierce intent here that’s to be applauded. 4/5 See the full review here: Narc ---

Roughly translated, it reads: Paul Sykes is the lead vocalist and lyricist for English band Hey Colossus, who recently released his ninth album, " The Guillotine ". An album that returns to immerse them in their particular universe of melancholy, saturated guitars, urgent rhythms and a certain air kraut rock that, without getting to dominate all its musical spectrum, gives them a fresh and original air. It reads: The second album from south London Housewives, now worthy stablemates to Hey Colossus and Gnod at Rocket Recordings, contains rage and skronk, tumbling drums and half-strangled wails, as well as soothing warm buildups and music to jerk-dance to. Opener 'Excerpt 1' is relaxing, but in the way that a frog might find a pan of water relaxing until it begins to simmer. Thereafter we are in roiling territory, with locked-tight rhythms and half-formed vocals, juddering drones and dizzying electronics. It's strong stuff, and lovely. It reads: Housewives’ combination of ecstatic skronk and feral, deliciously deviant groove feeds directly off that, and accordingly becomes the evening’s highlight, full of taught restraint, mesmeric incantations and a pulsating unity. With screwdrivers jammed into fretboards, blaring sax textures and a rolling togetherness throughout, the band start to resemble some sort of 20-limbed sea creature in front of an audience that seems as terrified as they are fascinated.
Due to unfortunate VISA problems Mdou Moctar has had to pull out of End of the Road this weekend where he was playing Late Junctions curated stage on Friday night. But the good news is that Late Junctions producer is a massive fan of Housewives so they were the first band called on to take their place – and we are extremely happy to say that the band can make it.
