We are delighted to say that our Gnoomes album 'Tschak!' features at number 6 in Gig Soup Music writers Top Ten Albums of The Year. 6 Gnoomes ‘Tshak!’
Laid out there still, in Manchester’s Piccadilly Records, is Gnoomes’ weirdo debut: ‘Tschak’. The day I found it, unfortunately, was a day of complete and utter-regret. What a fool I had been to pick Hibushibire’s ‘Freak Out Orgasm’ over this mighty Russian nu-psychedelia record. Oh! My sweet ‘Tschak!, how you have tortured me and how I miss the touch of your tight and sugary embrace. Still, to this day I shamefully forget about you. Hopefully, by seeing this, you will forgive me for my faults and make your way into my caressing nature. I will never forget the time we spent together in that minute store, gazing out upon the wilderness that is the Mancunian City Centre.
No Mightier Creatures – the new project by Renato from the great Serpentina Satelite has self-pressed his debut album onto vinyl and there are only 250 copies, so be quick if you want one as they won't be around for long. Buy and listen from here: Bandcamp ---
Prestigious Italian music magazine Mucchio put Julie’s Haircut's Invocation And Ritual Dance Of My Demon Twin in at number 7 of their yearly round-up, and they said: Julie’s Haircut – Invocation And Ritual Dance Of My Demon Twin The 7th album, the first for the english label Rocket recordings (yes, the same as Goat). The psychedelia of the outfit, with the add-on of Laura Agnusdei on sax, points to a dark, cosmic and esoteric reiteration. Krautrock, analogue electronica, free jazz. Instrumental fugues and sinister, mysterious voices. Everything blends into one of the most international and visionary italian albums of the year. The umpteenth precious step in a path ever more important, with no equals. See more here: Mucchio
- The album also has been included in this Top 20: Sentire Ascoltare And they said (roughly translated): Julie’s Haircut Cleanse our Christmas spirits from such darkness, we rely on the usual ritual benefits and animists that our Julie's Haircut sign in their first test on Rocket Recordings: their Invocation refers to the usual esoteric instances, clearing the key concepts through a deconstruction of the jazz form (we are in the area-Macerus) and the redundancies of school kraut (dirty word). ---
They say: Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Feed the Rats It’s rare to digest music as bombastic as the turgid, irrational unsound of Newcastle five-piece Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs. Feed The Rats is a maniacal babel of soul-sundering screams and tubular guitar fuzz. A total blunderbuss of cortex-toughening drone and Sabbathian psych. Thirty-five minutes of infernally boisterous avant-noise and brutal musicianship. Lead singer Matthew Baty’s exceptionally acrid roars on 15-minute opener Psychopomp is enough to shatter kneecaps as the group’s rhythm section spore out like a black infectious mould. A bone-breaking record. See the full rundown here: Crack ---
They say: 04 Goat – Fuzzed In Europe (Rocket Recordings) Compiled from recordings from their late 2016 tour, the masked Swedish collective’s energetic and exuberant live performances are now available in all their tribalistic glory. Blending fuzzed-out psych-rock with world music influences, the album offers a heavily jammed take on tracks from their three studio albums. Originally an edgy two-minute rocker, ‘Run to Your Mama’ gets an epic ten-minute makeover with wah-wah driven freak-outs reverberating over an entrancing rhythm section. ‘Talk To God’ is another highlight with its distinctive riff, beat and chanted vocals giving way to swelling onslaughts of guitar noise, while the more muted and melodic ‘I Sing In Silence’ proves these mysterious music makers have a gentler side behind their extravagant masks and robes. We wanted to share with you this great painting of Goat by Simon Davis who saw the band at this years WOMAD. He said "I finally got to see GOAT at Womad last summer and they were just incredible so felt compelled to do some kind of painting ". We at Rocket and the band think it is great!! The Quietus have revealed their albums of the year and as like previous years we are humbled to say we have three releases amongst the impressive run down: No.74 Hey Colossus - The Guillotine I could go on about how fantastic this album sounds, about the glorious, soaring terror of 'Experts Toll', or the rich, mournful beauty of 'Potions', but what feels more important is what it means. The Guillotine, as Gnod have done on Just Say No…, sees Hey Colossus harnessing their chaos, honing it into the very essence of these terrifying times. No.17 GNOD - Just Say No To The Psycho Right-Wing Capitalist Fascist Industrial Death Machine Gnod join the ever growing list of musicians concerned with personhood, dehumanisation and physical deterioration. But their approach is different – they are distinctly non-fantastical in their presentation of people, their lyrics capture everyday details such as the state of someone's nails, their hair, their work failures and private behaviours. Where other artists provide an implicit, ominous reference to dehumanisation through visual means, Gnod are explicit in their references, picking out situations and conditions of human exploitation and obscenity. No.15. Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs - Feed The Rats Feed The Rats is essentially three tracks – two gargantuan bolshie dirges bookending the four-and-a-half minute ‘Sweet Relief’. So let’s start there, with the meat in this fetid sandwich. The name could be a play on Black Sabbath’s ‘Sweet Leaf’ – for a band clearly indebted to the Birmingham icons it bears a modicum of sense. But there is relentlessness here, a flayed aggression, which Ozzy et al could never muster. Matt Baty’s vocals howl, echoing over the cacophony like a mythic warlord and mischief-maker, both from the heavens and from the bowels of the earth. And what a cacophony it is – the guitars come at you predictably but with a juggernaut force that rattles the ribcage. This is classic 70s heavy metal deep-fried in iron and blood. They say: Gnoomes - Tschak! Released in March of this year, the Russian trio delivered an exceptional blend of psychedelic rock and kosmische styles.
